Brooks began his career as a stand-up comedian and writer in the 1940s and 1950s. He gained recognition for his work as a writer on the television show “Your Show of Shows” and later collaborated with Carl Reiner on the comedy sketch series “The 2000 Year Old Man.” Brooks then ventured into film and directed his first feature, “The Producers,” in 1967. The film, a satirical take on the theater industry, was a critical and commercial success, earning Brooks an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
