Appearance: The most striking feature of Welwitschia mirabilis is its unusual and distinctive appearance. It consists of only two leaves, which are very long and strap-like. These leaves are initially narrow, but as the plant grows, they become torn and tattered due to wind and sand abrasion, giving them a frayed and weathered appearance. The leaves can reach lengths of 2 to 4 meters and are generally wider near the base.
