New Delhi: Parliamentary proceedings have been adjourned indefinitely as the Opposition continues to roar in the Lok Sabha today. The proceedings of the Lok Sabha were scheduled for 96 hours but the proceedings of the Lok Sabha could only last for 21 hours due to the uproar over other issues including the Pegasus espionage issue, repeal of the agriculture bill.

After adjourning the Lok Sabha for an indefinite period, Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Bhai Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and Congress National President Sonia Gandhi gathered at Speaker Om Birla’s office. The rare sight of leaders coming together and conversing in a cordial atmosphere was captured on camera.

In the monsoon session of Parliament in 2021, Pegasus and other issues caused a huge uproar in the Opposition. The Lok Sabha seat was repeatedly postponed due to Jane. On Wednesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla lamented the issue-based stalemate between the ruling party and the opposition in the House, the waste of time and the inability to discuss issues of public importance. He said 17 seats were held during the sixth session of the Lok Sabha. The working time was fixed for 96 hours, but in comparison only 21 hours and 14 minutes were worked.

Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla said, “I understand the pain of the people that issues of public importance could not be discussed in the Lok Sabha this time. Democracy is strengthened by discussion and dialogue. The bill should be passed in the House only after proper and meaningful discussion. Respect for parliamentary traditions and the dignity of the House should be maintained.

During the sixth session, the Lok Sabha held 17 sittings and the House worked for 21 hours and 14 minutes against the allotted time of 96 hours. 74 hours and 46 minutes were spent in the Lok Sabha due to the disruption caused by the Opposition. And the House’s business was 22 percent during this session. The sixth session of the current 17th Lok Sabha began on July 19. Which ended on August 11th. However, the House proceedings were to continue till August 13.

During the session 13 government bills were introduced and 20 bills were passed. Some of the important bills passed include the Constitution (127 Constitutional Amendment) Bill, 2021, the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Appropriation Bill relating to supplementary demands for the years 2017-18 and 2020-21.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the construction work of the new Parliament House is in progress. Every possible effort is being made to get the new parliament building ready by next year.
